The Changes in the Forest Vegetation on the Danube River Aggradation Mound Affected by Water Regime Changes

Abstract This article is focused on the specific vegetation, which has formed from floodplain forests aggradation mound (elevated sediment deposition) along original Danube river in Slovakia part affected by Gabčíkovo waterworks that was put operation 1992. As a result of water regime changes, when major flow redirected to hydroelectric power plant, began suffer deficit, also supported shallow soils mostly gravel sediments with limited capillary rise groundwater. It triggered successional processes leading degradation forest changes all layers. To identify these and development trends, we analyzed vegetation data 2002, 2012, 2022. The results indicate process secondary succession continues. includes mainly an increase number species, especially those typical for grasslands synanthropic habitats. From environmental point view, spread some invasive species striking. Ordination method (canonical-correlation analysis [CCA]) confirmed light, moisture, Shannon–Wiener index as main factors determining relevés’ variability.
